ESPN's
Kirk Herbstreit picked Oregon #1 for Pac-10 in 2000 on the "ESPN College
Football Preview Show" on 8/22/00. He will be holding a chat
each Thursday at 12:00 noon pacific.
8/24/00 CHAT HIGHLIGHT:
QUESTION from John O'Connor at 1:19pm ET:
"With all the injuries and players quitting at Washington...do you see
either Oregon or Oregon State having a chance to contend for the Pac 10 title?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ANSWER from Kirk Herbstreit at 1:22pm ET: "Even if Washington were 100
percent healthy, I still think the team to beat in the Pac-10 is the Oregon
Ducks. They always have an explosive offense and that should continue with Joey
Harrington at QB, Marshaun Tucker and Keenan Howry at wide receiver and JUCO
running back Maurice Morris carrying the ball. The Ducks should be flying again
this fall. The big question will be: can their defense stop people? Saul Patu
and Rashad Bauman need to step up and get that unit ready to play. They get
UCLA and Washington both at home and then have to travel to USC -- which could
be for the conference title despite being in October." (Is
it obvious that OregonFan worships Kirk?! Smart and handsome - nice package!)
8/21/00 - USA Today Sports' Jeff
Sagarin NCAA football ratings came out with Oregon picked #16 in the national
pre-season rankings.
8/14/00 - ESPN
The Magazine ranks Oregon #18 in their pre-season issue: "Coach
Mike Bellotti says this could be his fastest team yet, which is why he isn't
worried about replacing 1,100-yard rusher Rueben Droughns and leading receiver
Tony Hartley. Maurice Morris brings a huge rep -- try a national JC record for
career rushing yards. In nine wins in '99, the Ducks averaged 212 rushing yards;
in three losses, just 63. The heat's on Morris."
